OOTD Plus, Effortless Labor Day Style

Torrid sent over the pieces I’m wearing to facilitate this post. I was not paid for this post. All thoughts, opinions, and ideas are my own. Thank you to Torrid for partnering with me. And thank you readers for supporting the brands that support this blog and my family.

This dress, you guys. This. Dress. My plan for life is to live in it forever. Not only is it comfortable, but it flatters my plus size figure in all the right places. I love the boho chic details like the embroidery in the top part of the dress. It’s the perfect effortless pop over dress that pays homage to my desert home. I love the dusty blue color, understated tassels and every single thing about this dress. Since it’s sleeveless, it’s the perfect foundation for a layered look this Labor Day weekend. I’m a tall 5’9″ girl and even the length is spot on in this dress (where other brand usually fall too short). Blue Embroidered Challis Trapeze Dress via Torrid.

This light cardigan seems like it was just made for this dress since they create the perfect look when paired together, but I full intend on wearing this cardigan with several looks in the future. This will be an everyday staple that hangs next to my coat. The open stitching keeps it light enough for hot desert days, but snuggly enough to keep cozy when the night brings a cooler wind. Pointelle Open Cardigan via Torrid.

To finish off my effortless Labor Day weekend look, I accessorized with a velvet choker and suede wedges. I’ve been reluctant to try the choker trend because I’m plus size and feared it would only accentuate my double chin, but I was thrilled to see it actually had the opposite effect! Love the choker with this look. The luxurious velvet choker brings out the suede in the wedges on pulls this whole look together. Velvet Choker Set via Torrid. As a plus sized woman, it’s often hard for me to find clothing that fits me appropriately while allowing me to express my personal style. Torrid has been my number one place to shop for pieces that help give me my confidence back and allow me to embrace my post-baby (okay, she’s a preschooler now) mom bod. Like yoga pants, but better because I get to express myself through pieces I love.

5 of the Best Places to Shop for Kids Clothing

In our blended family of five, we spend a good chunk of our budget on keeping our kiddos clothed. We have to stretch our dollar as far as we can (we love hand me downs!), so I do my fair share of searching before choosing pieces for my kids. Simply buying the cheapest is often not the solution since those pieces typically fall apart the fastest and end up costing me more in the end. However I have discovered several stores that are affordable and also withstand the wear and tear my kiddos put on them. I like to mix more durable and pricy pieces with the more affordable items to get the most mileage out of their wardrobes. Having five kiddos has given me plenty of opportunity to do the research, so I’m sharing the best places to shop for kids clothing based on my experiences with my kiddos.

Meow top // Tiger sweatshirt // Girl club top

H&M always has fun and trendy options for my littles. They’re crazy affordable and usually offer free shipping when you spend over $40. My kiddos use their clothing for playtime and running around since I’m not going to be bummed out if anything gets ruined.

Mini Boden

Animal overall dress // Stripy jersey dress // Printed cord pinafore

Mini Boden has quickly become one of my favorite brands for children’s clothing. Their whimsical designs are adorably charming and the clothing is built to withstand real play and use. While they’re a little more pricey, it’s reflected in the clothing and how it’s made. I usually add in a few staple pieces into each of my kids wardrobes during back to school season. I’m never disappointed; our Mini Boden pieces are always in like new condition after a long school year and some of the best pieces to pass on to siblings and cousins.

Osh Kosh

Monster truck top // Space top // Hooded jersey pullover

Osh Kosh is one of my diamonds in the rough. It seems like I always forgot to check them out, but when I do I can get several pieces affordably. I love to hit up their sales during back to school season and other holidays. I also have a rewards membership with them which always earns me credit towards stuff once my kiddos grow out of what they have. This is one of my favorite places to stock up on jammies too (they always have those fun skeleton jammies around Halloween).

Crazy 8

Button up geo shirt // Dare to be gr8 top // Stay true blue top

I didn’t discover Crazy 8 until a few years ago when I stumbled upon a store in my local shopping mall. This place is crazy cool. Their designs are always fun and implement trends with familiar designs for kids. They’re really affordable and a great place to pick up clothes that reflect my kiddos personalities.

Thrift stores

Thrift stores are one of my favorite places to shop for my kiddos clothing. I can always find special and unique items when I take my time to look through the racks. They’re also a great place to get winter jackets that are practically new. I get extra excited when I find handmade dresses and items that are one of a kind. It takes some time to sift through the junk, but it’s worth it!

Keeping these stores in my bookmarks saves me time and money, plus my kids look cute and put together. They’re pretty much in my parenting handbook filed under the chapter How to Dress Your Kids Without Going Bankrupt at this point, ha!

My Favorite Back to School Backpacks for Preschoolers

This post contains affiliate links.

One of my favorite parts about back to school season is shopping for new backpacks with my littles. This is is extra special since my tiniest babe, Evelyn, starts her first year of school at pre-k. She’s been ready for this since her brothers started school last year and as bittersweet as this next chapter is, I’m jumping in with two feet and enjoying watching her experience some of the little joys, like choosing her first backpack. Evelyn, her two big brothers, and I have scoured our favorite stores to being you some of our favorite back to school backpacks for preschoolers like her.

For girls

Neon Cat Backpack from Crazy 8 \\ Russian Doll Backpack from Dabba Walla \\ Butterflies Backpack from Amazon \\ Buddie Character Rucksack from Joules \\ Roller Skate Backpack from Land of Nod \\ Woodland Print Backpack from Be Free via Etsy \\ Dancing Princesses Backpack from Weeperas via Etsy \\ Chocolate Lace Backpack from Rabbit Lia via Etsy

For boys

Scorpion Backpack from Crazy 8 \\ Fox Backpack from MiniBoden \\ Shark Backpack from Dabba Walla \\ Grey Robot Backpack from Amazon \\ Teacher’s Pet (Dog) Backpack from Land of Nod \\ Outer Space Backpack from Land of Nod \\ Zippy Rucksack from Joules \\ Patch Rucksack from Joules

I’ll never forget my Lisa Frank rainbow leopard backpack or my embroidered Winnie the Pooh backpack. As sappy as it sounds, my backpacks gave me confidence and a sense of self when I wore them. I’ve loved helping my daughter choose hers this year and sharing in a tradition I held with my own mother as a little girl. I love that I can help her to learn to embrace herself, quirks and all, with something as simple as choosing her first backpack.

3 Accessories I Never Leave the House Without

This post may contain affiliate links.

I’m not a huge accessories type of gal. I love necklaces, but I tend to keep it minimalist and simple when it comes to my jewelry. There are a few accessories I never leave the house without and I’m beginning to think I might need to switch things up, ha! But these are such great items that I love wearing them every single day.

My Jord wood watch

This is my favorite watch that I’ve ever owned. I love that it’s unique without being too much of a statement piece. The warm colored wood matches everything I wear and it’s a functional piece to wear. I wear the Zebrawood & Maple, but I also adore the Cora in Koa & Rose Gold…also, this Frankie one is heart eyes.

My Origami Owl necklace

Necklaces are my favorite accessory and I have quite a collection, but I always gravitate towards my Origami Owl locket. I found the Legacy Locket, which is much larger than their standard ones, and it fits all five of my children/stepchildren’s birthstones plus additional charms. I love the locket and that it’s full of adorable charms that have meaning to me, which is probably why I always choose this beauty. I got mine from Megan Ahlstrom, a sweet friend of mine, here is her Origami Owl website where you can shop directly.

Too Faced powder foundation

With the desert heat, I always carry my favorite powder foundation from Too Faced. I’m a big sweater (I even use prescription antiperspirant), so I need to keep my powder close to help me combat that familiar sweat shine that develops on my forehead and cheeks. I love Too Faced because it gives a matte finish and absorbs oils. Plus it smells great since cocoa powder and cocoa butter are main ingredients.

These three accessories are my for real sidekicks. I love that I can depend on them and that they’re always helping me to feel and look my best. They’re sort of my little style trademarks that I’ve developed over the years.

The Monroe Kimono

This week, in my LuLaRoe VIP Group, I’m featuring the Monroe Kimono and I couldn’t resist sharing this lovely piece with all of you beauties, too! The Monroe is a kimono with fringe at the bottom and has a boho chic feel to it. It comes in sizes small and large, which fit a wide variety of body types and sizes (I’m a size 16 and can wear both easily). With warmer weather finally here, it’s the perfect addition to a spring/summer wardrobe. In fact, I can’t wait to wear mine as a swimsuit cover up on the beach and at the pool.

Last week, I styled my Monroe with a pair of distressed jeans and a striped tank. Monroe is easy to slip on over any outfit or dress for instant boho chic.

As a desert dweller, I have a deep love for the Monroe because it’s a light cover up that doesn’t add bulk or weight to my looks. It’s light and airy so I stay comfortable while also looking feminine.

This week only, I’ll be offering free shipping on all Monroes in my VIP group. They are $48 each plus tax, but shipping will be free making this the perfect time to snatch one up before the summer weather gets here!

The Carly Dress | LuLaRoe

Let’s talk about my homegirl Carly. The Carly dress probably my most favorite LuLaRoe dress from the several styles that we offer. Carly is a shirt dress that’s loose fitting and just the coziest thing I’ve ever worn. I jokingly refer to Carly as my shark week dress because she just helps me to hide all the bloat and allows me to feel comfortable while also looking fresh and put together. The dress truly flatters every body type, which is part of why I absolutely adore it.

The Carly dress runs large and I often recommend sizing one to two sizes down. I am 5’9″ and I wear a size sixteen. Typically I wear a 2X, but in Carly I wear a L. I can go all the way down to a small comfortably, but because I’m tall I prefer the large. Carly can be worn a variety of ways, but my two favorites are as a simple dress and as a tunic by sizing down two to three sizes and tying a knot on the side.

While my favorite way to style Carly is casually, she can also be dressed up with a chunky necklace or even with a thin belt for a more fitted look. I styled Carly for a date night by wearing booties and a leather jacket (with LuLaRoe leggings underneath, of course!)

Since becoming a consultant, I’ve grown my Carly collection just about as big as my leggings collection because I love her that much. I recommend Carly to anyone and everyone; especially LuLaRoe newbies who aren’t sure where to start because a Carly is the best way to build a LuLaRoe wardrobe.

To get your hands on a Carly dress, join my VIP group on Facebook where I upload inventory weekly. You can also contact me at lularoehollyandsam@gmail.com to book an in-home pop-up to earn your way to a free Carly, just ask me how!

LuLaRoe | Leggings

It all started with a pair of nesting doll leggings. LuLa-What turned into a rabbit hole where I found myself with new friends named Amelia, Julia, Carly, and Nicole and speaking a new language that included words like unicorn print, OS, and TC. Eventually, I found my elusive nesting doll leggings only to discover a new print I had to have for my collection in addition to the dresses named after my new friends.

Since discovering LuLaRoe, I’ve become more confident in clothes that actually fit me. I’ve become excited to get dressed in the morning and wear a new dress that makes me feel beautiful in my own skin. As a plus sized woman, shopping for clothes is exhausting. A size 18 in one store isn’t a size 18 in the next one. A roomy 1X top in this brand is skin tight in another brand. And leggings? That’s a joke. Forget about them unless you’re looking for too short, underwear revealing pants. LuLaRoe offers a leggings size that fits sizes 12-22 and at my normally 16/18 size, I was intrigued to try them for myself.

I’ve been so pleased with how LLR fits my figure without being too short or showcasing my underwear that I became a consultant. My best friend (and cousin!) and I joined forces and invested together to begin sharing the love with our friends and family. For me, sharing clothing that makes me feel covered and actually fits has changed my wardrobe forever; so it was an easy transition to decide to share that love with other women.

For newbies, the best way for me to explain LuLaRoe is that is a clothing company that provides modest solutions for women’s clothing. But it’s so much more than that! While they’re renowned for their fun prints, they also offer classic solids and designs that flatter everyone. Shopping is simple and done right from home through Facebook sales with consultants or via in-home pop-ups. (where a consultant comes into your home and shows pieces from her inventory).

This week I wanted to feature the style that started it all: the buttery soft leggings. Made from brushed poly, the thin material hugs your body in ultimate softness. They offer two sizes OS (one size) which fits sizes 2-12 and TC (tall and curvy) which fits sizes 12-22. This week in Join the LuLaRoe Holly & Sam VIP Group, we’re offering free shipping on all leggings, so if you’ve been wanting to try a pair for yourself, now is the time to grab a pair.

Christmas Pageant Kids | OshKosh

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of OshKosh B’gosh; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

My boys’ school puts on a small Christmas play every year and my ever-swelling mama heart always looks forward to it. I love watching them stand on stage and sing the songs they’ve practiced for weeks, eyes scanning the crowd for me as they belt out, “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth,” & beam with pride when they catch my hand waving high for them to see. It’s not a formal event, but we all dress a little fancier and try to be festive because everyone knows by now that it’s my best opportunity to get pictures with my, “big camera,” to mark the occasion. It’s become quite the little tradition in our family and I love every moment of the home grown pageant starring the children of our small town.

This year, like every other, I rounded everyone up for fresh outfits and a good hair combing before rushing them out the door for pictures before wrestling matches could ruffle anything up. I posed them on our rock, that by now they know is the picture rock. It’s where I always pose them for pictures like these. This rock has seen their dedication, four Halloweens, four Christmases, twelve birthdays, and five Forth of Julys.

This Christmas, our trusty rock provides a perfect posing scene for two first graders, proud as can be. And a toothy-grinned, curly-haired three year old who will be four in just a few short weeks.

For my kiddos, style and comfort go hand in hand. Here in the High Desert, it’s all about layers. While some days my boys carry their jackets to school in their backpacks (despite my reminder that jackets won’t keep you warm when they’re inside a backpack), by the end of the day, they need an added layer once the desert winds pick up. OshKosh provides them with clothes that are durable, but also make them feel confident and stylish.

My sweet Aiden boy loves wearing layers and always wants to have a plaid button up over whatever shirt he’s wearing. Before his pageant, we added a handsome cardigan for a cozy holiday feel that made him look like quite the young man sitting on that faithful rock of ours.

Heart filled with pride, rock pictures just weren’t enough for me this year and I forced my trio to pose for just a few more at the school before the pageant started. Thankfully I’ve raised three very hammy children thus far and they were happy to oblige.

Inside the cafeteria, we were sung to with the proudest first grade class I ever did see. Always absurdly proud, I cried like I do every year. And afterwards I told them how wonderful they were and how proud I was of them both. And like we do every year (as reliable as my mom-cry), we picked up a pizza on the way home. It’s a little tradition, but it’s ours and it makes our holiday feel special.

OshKosh is offering 20% off your purchase of $30 or more when you shop online or in-store. Redeem the offer online by using code OKBG3223 at checkout. And if you’re shopping in-store, use code 036108 or print out this coupon and give it to the cashier. I love stocking up for my kiddos when I get my hands on these money saving coupons from OshKosh.

To spread some holiday cheer, I’m giving away one $50 gift card to OshKosh B’gosh, good in-store or online to one of my readers. To enter, simply comment below with your favorite holiday tradition. I’ll choose a winner at 11:59PM PST on December 23rd, 2016. Winner will be contacted within 48 hours.

Autumn Style & Smile | OOTD

Here in the High Desert, we’re still reaching temperatures of 90 degrees and above, which means as much as I want to be serving fall style, it’s not happening. But that doesn’t mean I can’t refresh my wardrobe and beauty routine, especially my smile! I’m embracing fall in my own little desert dwelling way with darker colors, lace, earthy accessories, and of course a whiter smile.

Autumn in the desert is still pretty warm, so I like to wear light layers that still give that fall look without feeling too heavy. This black tank top and black lace duster paired with distressed jeans feels like fall layers, but actually keep me feeling cool. Accessorizing with boho chic jewelry and a pair of earthy moccasins completes this look. Well, almost

It’s actually my whiter smile that completes this look. I started using the Colgate® Optic White® Toothbrush + Whitening Pen about a week ago and already have a brighter smile. The toothbrush has specifically designed polishing bristles and stain removers and I’ve been using it with my regular toothpaste. Once I’m done brushing, I pull out the whitening pen and apply the gel to my teeth. It takes just seconds to apply and there is no waiting or rinsing. The pen stores conveniently right inside the toothbrush handle for me to easily use twice daily for best results. The system starts working in just one day, but in three weeks, I should be able to achieve teeth that are five shades whiter.

This season the desert climate may not allow me to step into my thigh high boots and cozy sweaters just yet, but with a few fun layers, accessories, and a fresh new smile, I’m still embracing fall as best as I can here with the sand dunes and Joshua Trees.

Reebok CloudRide DMX

This post was sponsored by Reebok as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Along with my diet change I’ve been trying to be more active, which has included more walking. My old sneakers were purchased back in 2007 and at almost 10 years old (even the laces were mismatched in a desperate attempt to add to their lifespan), needed to be replaced with a shoe I could depend on for long lasting comfort. Reebok CloudRide DMX sneakers offered me exactly that while allowing me to live a more active lifestyle.

The sneakers have patented moving air technology which consists of a lightweight, flexible sole of encapsulated air that provides long-lasting comfort that’s been popular in other Reebok “DMX” products. The air inside the soles are what makes it unique as most shoes typically use foam. I noticed the most difference in my heels when I walked, feeling like I was walking on a soft cloud.

They are available in black or white. They feel light weight; almost as if I’m barefoot, but also snug and cozy on my feet while offering the support I need for my daily walks or while out running errands. The material is almost mesh-like, which offers plenty of breathing room for your tootsies. As a desert dweller, I appreciate this because it means my sweaty feet will be able to breathe. I think the material would allow for sock-less walking as well for people like me who like the no-sock look with a sneaker. They run true to size, my big ol’ size tens were appreciative of that.

Walking around my block nearly everyday really takes a toll on my feet, which is why I was eager to try the cloud-like comfort of the Reebok CloudRide DMX sneakers. They offered me cozy comfort on the uneven roads in my desert town. And with their 100% money back guarantee, I really had nothing to lose by giving them a shot.

Reebok CloudRide DMX sneakers are available at select Famous Footwear stores (check with your local retailer for in-store availability) and online at FamousFootwear.com.
