Strawberry Peach Banana Smoothie Bowl

One area of my life where I feel like I could always do better is nutrition; especially where my kiddos are concerned. Mornings are the hardest because they’re the most hectic part of our day. Trying to pull together a breakfast that they’ll enjoy, I’ll enjoy, and that contains some semblance of nutrition is a challenge. With a new year underway, I’ve recommitted to ensuring I provide nutritious breakfasts for my family. One way I’ve started doing this is with morning smoothie bowls. My kiddos love these smoothie bowls and my daughter even calls it breakfast ice cream, ha! The Strawberry Peach Banana Smoothie Bowl has become a favorite around here and we enjoy them at least twice a week. Since discovering wanu water, I’ve revamped the recipe a little to include the nutrient rich water into the blend. Mom level up!

I start by tossing some frozen strawberries, bananas, and peaches into my food processor.

Then I add in some wanu water in the Peach Passion flavor. I love adding these to my kiddo’s morning smoothie bowls. wanu water has a touch of natural sweetness thanks to the monk fruit, which sweetens foods and drinks without the harmful effects of sugar. wanu also includes tons of essential nutrients like B1, B3, B5, B6, B12, K, Folic Acid, Biotin, Fiber, and antioxidant Vitamin E. I love that the added fiber aids my picky kids digestion and that they’re getting all these hidden vitamins while enjoying a tasty treat.

Save $1.00 on any two (2) 16 oz bottles of wanu water. Expires 12/31/18.

I flip the processor onto high and let it slice and dice those frozen fruit nuggets for me for several minutes until it reaches a texture that’s just between a smoothie and sorbet. Since this is a smoothie bowl, I prefer a thicker texture for optimum spoonfuls, ha! Once the fruit reaches my desired consistency, I spoon it out into a bowl.

I top the smoothie bowls with some of my kiddo’s favorite toppings like coconut flakes, granola, and some fresh banana slices. The result is a Strawberry Peach Banana Smoothie Bowl that looks just as good as it tastes. My kiddos can’t hardly wait to dig their spoons into the tasty vitamin-infused fruit (thanks, wanu water!) whenever I make these tasty bowls for them.

wanu water is available at my local Vons store and I always grab a few of each of their tasty flavors: Passion Peach, Kiwi Cucumber (this one is so refreshing!), and Watermelon Raspberry.

Be sure to visit the wanu water website to learn more. You can also check them out on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup Scones

There’s something about fall that practically demands a hot cup of coffee and scones in the early afternoon. Crisp air and a cozy sweater just aren’t the same without dunking a scone into a warm comforting cup of coffee. Scone recipes are my favorite to experiment with because they’re so rustic and easy to pull together that I can almost never ruin them. Earlier this week, I was inspired by the new seasonal flavors while shopping at my local Walmart. The International Delight® Seasonal Creamers featured the flavors we all look forward to like Pumpkin Pie Spice, but there was also a REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup flavor that begged me to take it home. And naturally, I obliged. My husband is a chocolate peanut butter fanatic, so when I told him I’d be using some of the creamer to create REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup Scones, he was happy to wash the dishes for me as we waited for the scones to bake.

I started by adding flour, sugar, baking powder, and some salt to a large mixing bowl.

Next, I added in some cold butter that I grated with my cheese grater and some peanut butter. I mixed it together just slightly to start incorporating the ingredients.

In a separate bowl, I whisked together an egg, plain Greek yogurt, some International Delight® REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup creamer, and vanilla.

I added the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and tossed in a few peanut butter and chocolate chips, stirring until just combined. Then I got in there with my hands to ensure the dry mixture was thoroughly incorporated.

I floured my kitchen counter and placed the dough over it, forming it into about an eight inch circle. I cut it into eighths and transferred each slice to a baking sheet.

The REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup Scones baked for about 12 minutes. I pulled them out and allowed them to cool completely before enjoying, much to my husband’s dismay. Waiting that long for his favorite treat was torturous for him, ha!

I flavored my coffee with some of the same International Delight® REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup creamer I used in the scones and dunked them in for a treat that was practically perfect. The creamer is rich and smooth and the hint of flavor from the coffee made the scones even more delectable.  If there’s not International Delight® REESE’S Peanut Butter Cup creamer in your coffee, there should be, my friends.

5 Back to School Lunch Ideas

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #PackThePerfectLunch #CollectiveBias

“I gotta go back! Back! Back! To School again!” Its a song that I sing to me kids at the beginning of every school year. It’s my sworn duty as a mother to annoy them with my Grease 2 songs as I wake them up and get them out of bed each morning. With three kiddos in school this year, it’s also my sworn duty to pack them well rounded lunches. I try to keep things fun by switching up my lunch game every now and then. These five back to school lunch ideas have become tried and true favorites with my kiddos.

Copycat Box Lunches

This lunch is simple to put together and one of my kids favorites. I simply use the top of a water bottle to cut the bologna into circle shapes and cut the cheese into bit sized squares. My kiddos can assemble their cheese and crackers creations during lunch just like they would with the store bought version. I add in a bottle of cold DASANI and a couple of mandarins before packing this lunch up for school.

Turkey rolls

I added these fun turkey rolls to the rotation last year when I was trying to revamp a plain ol’ turkey sandwich. Bread gets soggy fast here in the desert, so I try to avoid sandwiches if I can and these were a simple solution. I pat a piece of turkey dry with a paper towel, layer a few pieces of salami over it (my kids love salami, but it could easily be swapped with any other lunchmeat or even cheese), and roll it up. None of my kids like cream cheese, but if they did, I’d slather a bit of that over the turkey too. I add a package of Lance crackers and an Honest Kids Juice with a piece of fresh fruit to complete the meal.

DIY Pizzas

I’m sure it’s easy to guess that this is one of my kids faves. I use a plastic container for some shredded mozzarella, pepperonis, and crackers. All the elements one needs for a lunch version of pizza. A package of Lance Crackers and a bottle of POWERADE go in next followed by some cut up apples (not pictured).

PBJ rolls

I jazz up a classic PBJ by rolling out a piece of bread as thin as I can using a rolling pin. I add the peanut butter and jelly before rolling it into a fun spiral. I usually make two of three of these for my kids and they love them. It feels like a fun treat rather than the usual PBJ. My kiddos love finding a Honest Kids Juice in their lunch boxes along with a package of their favorite Lance Crackers.

These are a fun way to serve some of my kids favorite finger foods. I simply a classic cheddar cheese quesadilla into small slices and insert them into a container. I add a package of Toast Chee and a Honest Kids Juice along with a couple mandarins to finish off this lunch.

Save $1.50 on any (1) Lance 8 count and larger sandwich packs when you buy any (2) participating DASANI, POWERADE or Honest Kids multipacks with tear-pad coupon found in-store. Find the in-store coupon available on end caps.

These are a fun way to switch up normal lunches and they double as a great tool to encourage my kids to enjoy better for them options. While I love to switch things up, I love using Lance crackers to add to their lunches. It makes it easier for me to get creative with their lunches when I can rely on things like Honest Kids Juice, POWERADE, DASANI, and Lance Crackers which I can find conveniently at my local VONS. While I have mad love for the bento box moms, I’m not quite there. I need a semi-homemade version of that and I think that these back to school lunch ideas are the perfect balance for me.

For more back to school lunch ideas and inspiration, be sure to visit your local VONS store where you’ll find all of the ingredients I used here along with my trusty sidekicks: Honest Kids Juice, POWERADE, DASANI, and Lance Crackers.

Cold Soothing Honey Lemon Tea

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #TeaProudly #CollectiveBias

In my blended family of seven, cold season hits us hard. Between five little kiddos and two adults, I’ve learned over the years what remedies seem to soothe them the most (myself included) and one of my tried and true remedies is a hot cup of Bigelow tea sweetened with a little honey to coat and soothe even the sorest of throats. The steam from the tea helps to clear stuffy noses while the warm liquid soothes and the honey coats for relief. I’ve prepared my pantry with plenty of Bigelow tea in a variety of flavors in anticipation of cold season in the Sosa house.

To make this simple Cold Soothing Honey Lemon Tea, you’ll need Bigelow Lemon Ginger tea. Boil your water or use a handy instant hot water feature on your coffee maker. I can’t tell you how often we use that feature on ours!

And let it steep for as long as you prefer. I typically allow one to two full minutes.

After it’s steeped, go ahead and add about a tablespoon of honey while it’s still hot and stir it together, letting the warm tea melt the honey down.

When I’m feeling foggy during a cold, I love to just hold the steaming tea right under my nose and breathe it in. The lemon aroma and warm steam soothe my nose and stuffed head while I wait for the tea to cool down enough to drink. When it’s cool enough to drink, the honey helps to coat a sore and raw throat, providing welcome warmth, relief, and comfort. Even if I’m not using tea to soothe a cold, it provides warmth on chilly winter days and helps me to wind down and relax, so I always have some of my favorite flavors on hand.

Bigelow has been manufactured in the US for three generations and always use quality ingredients for superior tea. They use foil packaging that provides freshness I can depend on time and again, which is why I choose it for my family over and over. I can grab Bigelow at my local Walmart during my usual weekly shopping for my family and I love that I have easy access to my favorite tea. I tea proudly when I drink Bigelow.

Cranberry Orange Holiday Punch

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. and Georgia-Pacific LLC. All opinions are my own. #DrinkMakeWishBake #CollectiveBias

While it’s not quite Thanksgiving, I’m already fa-la-la-ing and jingle belling to and fro. I’m baking up a storm in the kitchen (a true sign in my home that the holidays are near) and I’m serving up fun holiday punch and seasonal treats at the weekly community group meetings here in my home. My family hosts meetings with members from our church and hosting them is the highlight of my week. I love inviting people into my home, filling their bellies with something sweet, and serving tasty refreshments. It’s a place where I get to serve the people I love and embrace the heck out of my holiday-loving personality.

The past few weeks, I’ve been serving a Cranberry Orange Holiday Punch that I easily make about twenty minutes before our friends arrive. It’s a simple recipe that doesn’t overwhelm me. I love to serve, but I also know that these meetings are where I have the opportunity to connect with my community and I need to be sure I have time to honor that.

To make this recipe, I start by cutting some mandarins into fourths and add them to a large drink dispenser.

Next I add in cranberries, both fresh or dried work nicely in this recipe. I’ve used both with success.

Look at that beautiful holiday color!

Then I add in some ice.

And an entire two liter of 7UP®.

Are you ready for your next Target run?  Check out these upcoming Cartwheel offers for extra savings:

Using a wooden spoon, I give it all a few good stirs and let the fruit do the rest of the work by infusing into the 7UP.

I enjoy displaying the drink dispenser alongside a twin one filled with water on a decorated table. Twinkle lights and gourds have been my current favorite, but I’m practically bursting to start using holly leaves, pinecones, and fir branches.

When I have friends in my home, Dixie Ultra® Holiday Plates and Vanity Fair® napkins give me time to be more present and connect with the people that matter because only Dixie Ultra® Holiday Plates and Vanity Fair® napkins provide the dependability that allows me freedom from worry about clean up later. I can trust Dixie and Vanity Fair, which is why I use them every week at my gatherings. Offered in a variety of sizes, I’ve always got exactly what I need to serve whatever treat I’ve whipped up that day. Dixie Ultra® Holiday Plates can be found in the Holiday seasonal section at Target or in-aisle with the other disposable tableware items.

The holidays are the perfect time to gather together with family and friends to create moments and memories to last a lifetime. For me, these are the moments that Dixie and Vanity Fair help me to create by allowing me to forget worry about any mess afterwards (no dishes to wash!), and focus on the people gathered in my home and around my table.

DIY Monster Headbands

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #WalmartMonsters #MiniMonsters #Walmart

Halloween is such a fun time in my home. We love to do holidays loudly and proudly. No shame, just pure holiday indulgence. For Halloween, my kiddos and I love to create creepy foods and craft our spookiest creations. This year, inspired by A&W® Root Beer Mini Monster cans, we created our silliest DIY Monster Headbands together. Because how else do you drink a pop with a monster on it? Not without a monster headband, that’s for sure.

  • headbands
  • craft pipe cleaners
  • craft poms
  • craft cords
  • wiggly craft eyes
  • Halloween party favors/props

The name of the game for this craft is to be as silly or as spooky as your heart desires. Since we still have littles, we went with silly monsters and we started by wrapping pipe cleaners around our headbands.

Next we wrapped more pipe cleaners around some Halloween party favor glasses we found in the seasonal aisle at Walmart. And then attach them to our headband by wrapping the pipe cleaners other end around it.

Once we have monster eyes, everything else is creative flow. We think outside the box. We channel our inner purple people eaters. Embrace the werewolves inside ourselves.

Hot glue secures all of our monster parts perfectly so we can wear our headbands throughout October. For me, maybe while I’m out at Walmart picking up more of these fun monster cans of Sunkist® Soda, A&W Root Beer, 7UP®, Canada Dry®, Squirt® and Big Red® that my husband and I enjoy after kids are tucked in bed (what?! you do it, too!).

Use the Ibotta app to get $1.00 cash back when you buy these Halloween mini monster cans at Walmart.

For the kids, these headbands will be worn while playing with the monsters that come to life right off of the mini monster cans. Oh yes, friends, it’s like having a pet monster (only you don’t have to feed it or clean up after it). Download the Mini Monsters Augmented Reality app (while wearing your rad new headbands, of course) and use it to bring the monsters on your cans to life. The app allows users to record videos of their monster and even take selfies with their new monster friends.

Visit the Mini Monsters website to learn more about these special Halloween 6-pack monster cans of 7Up, A&W Root Beer, Canada Dry, Squirt, Sunkist, and Big Red and how you can bring each monster to life.

Boozy Wine Glasses

boozy wine glasses010

As a believer in soaking up everything this life has to offer me, I have a deep appreciation for each of the four seasons and the gifts they bring to me. Fall for it’s sweater weather and pumpkin spice lattes; winter for it’s crackling fireplaces and hot cocoa; spring for it’s blooming flowers and marshmallow chicks; and summer for it’s pool days and perfectly acceptable activity of day drinking. They all bring special gifts, but I’d be lying if I didn’t confess that I’m sort of digging on summer and the permission it gives me to have a glass of JaM Cellars wine in hand anytime after noon (reminder to please drink responsibly, friends!).

Soaking in all of life, aside from a little day drinking, also includes copious amounts of puns, the cornier the better. And since it’s summer and I’m all about embracing both of these gifts of life, I thought I’d create some Boozy Wine Glasses to gift some of my friends who get me in all my weird glory.

Friends, gather your supplies and flip on this playlist from the JaM Cellars blog. Let’s get these boozy wine glasses started!

boozy wine glasses001

  • wine glasses (dollar store is fine, let’s be real they’re just a vehicle)
  • oil based markers
  • JaM Cellars Cabernet (the most essential part, find it near you)

To start, use an alcohol pad to ensure the area you’re going to write on is cleaned and allow it to dry.

Choose a marker, channel your inner pun goddess, and think of a boozy phrase. I had four wine glasses and my phrases were: Hakuna Cabernet (it means drink wine); Sip me baby, one more time; Mommy’s sippy cup; Time to wine down.

boozy wine glasses002

boozy wine glasses003

If you don’t love your handwriting, type up your phrase in a word document and print it out. Trim the paper down and insert it into the wine glass to use as a template.

Next, place your glasses on a cookie sheet and put them into a cold oven. Set the temperature to 350F degrees and let them bake for thirty minutes. Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool. The glasses will be hand washing safe, but I wouldn’t trust the paint to stay on in the dishwasher.

Finally, fill up your glasses and enjoy JaM Cab with your fellow pun-loving friends.

boozy wine glasses004

boozy wine glasses005

JaM Cellars gets me in that they take their wines seriously, but they don’t take themselves seriously! They make three easy-to-love, everyday California wines: Butter Chardonnay, JaM Cabernet, and Toast Sparkling. Made in the tradition of great California winemaking—rich, bold and luscious, but doesn’t need to wait for a gourmet meal or perfect cheese. It’s right at home in the sunshine, at sunset, or with a burger or BBQ; it’s totally my kinda JaM!

3 Small Changes I’m Making for a Better Lifestyle

As a work from home mom, I don’t get to be as active as I know I should be. I’m behind a desk for several hours daily and by the end of my work day, I’m so mentally wiped that I make excuse after excuse to ignore my workouts. I’m also often so immersed in my work that my eating habits are usually poor choices. This summer, I’ve been taking steps towards getting more healthy and adjusting my lifestyle accordingly. I’ve found that incorporating small changes, like increasing daily activity, using Born Sweet Zing™ Zero Calorie Stevia Sweetener, and eating more often (yes, really!), into my daily lifestyle has been setting the foundation for getting me healthier. These small changes I’m making for a better lifestyle have worked so well for me that I felt I had to share them with my mama friends!

Being active for 30 minutes daily

better lifestyle001

I’ve found that a simple brisk 30 minute walk can improve my mood and even increases my focus. Here in the desert, it’s often too hot to do this in the middle of the day, but if I get up early enough and get it done before the kiddos wake up, I’m much more balanced throughout the day. But on the off chance they’re up before me, it’s a fun family activity to do together. In the evenings, I’ve been using a stationary bike that I picked up secondhand from a friend. After I tuck my kids into bed, I flip on my TV, start up an episode of Housewives, and go at it for an hour before showering and heading off to sleep.

Swapping in Born Sweet Zing™ Zero Calorie Stevia Sweetener

better lifestyle004

Lately, I’ve been using Born Sweet Zing™ Zero Calorie Stevia Sweetener to sweeten my morning chai tea or smoothie. It’s all the sweet without that weird artificial aftertaste, which makes sense since it’s made with only real ingredients; nothing artificial. Zing Stevia Sweetener contains zero calories and brings a perfect sweetness that I can sprinkle into coffee, tea, smoothies, and pro tip: try it over strawberries for an amaZING (see what I did there?!) mid-day snack!

Eating more often (yes, really!)

better lifestyle003

I’ve noticed that when I make myself eat every two to three hours, I’m less likely to binge or crave later on in the day. Bingeing is a problem I struggle with almost everyday. When I complete my work and realize I haven’t eaten all day, I suddenly want anything and everything. Lately I’ve been setting an alarm on my phone to remind me to eat every two hours. If I keep easy to grab, better for me snack options on hand, like strawberries I dice up earlier in the week (that I can just sprinkle my Born Sweet Zing™ Zero Calorie Stevia Sweetener over) or pre-washed and de-stemmed cherries, I’ve got a quick solution that will keep me from grabbing the potato chips or chocolate cookies.

I’ve made these small changes over the summer and have noticed a measurable difference in my mood and energy. I’m not bogged down by syrupy sweeteners or artificial stuff that stays in my mouth all day, the activity puts me in a better mood and I can focus much more throughout my day. I’m really excited to have laid this foundation for a better lifestyle so that I can begin to change more and more aspects of my life to ensure I’m being the best me I can be. I know I sound like a motivational poster, but it’s truth, sister, it’s truth!

better lifestyle005

Make the switch with me this summer and take the #Ready4Amazing Challenge towards a more amaZING you and enter for a chance to win a Keurig® K250 Plus! To enter, upload a photo or story about the AmaZing sweet taste of Born Sweet Zing™ Stevia Sweetener in your favorite beverage! Entries are open from August 15th through the 26th.

How I Plan My Weeks, a Guide to Using a Paper Planner

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #IDSimplyPure #CollectiveBias

paper planner004

My planner isn’t just a way for me to stay organized, it’s also a hobby of mine that I enjoy spending time on. My little spiral bound book has become a sort of media journal where I can not only keep track of what’s going on in my family’s lives, but also record small journal entries or funny things my kids said that day. My planner simplifies my life and keeps me on track for a productive week. There is a method to my madness and today I’m sharing how I plan my weeks out, what methods I use, how I set (and achieve!) goals, and more. Grab a cup of coffee, sister. Let’s get nerdy together!

A perfectly creamy cup of coffee

paper planner008

paper planner010

Planning is practically impossible without a large hot cup of creamy coffee. I prefer my coffee creamy and flavored with Simply Pure Coffee Creamer in Hazelnut flavor. Made with just five simple ingredients including real milk, cream, and sugar. As a gal who puts effort into simplifying my life with a planner, I appreciate a simpler creamer. Available at Walmart in Vanilla, Caramel, and Hazelnut flavors, my fridge is never without a steady supply of both the Vanilla and Hazelnut flavors. Both my husband and I enjoy Simply Pure Coffee Creamer for it’s simple five ingredient recipe and rich flavor that doesn’t require extra creamer in our coffee; it never loses flavor. Planning with my coffee is my daily me moment when I get to enjoy the flavors of those roasted beans mixed with Simply Pure while I set and work on achieving my goals.

Using card inserts

paper planner001

paper planner002

I use card inserts to help me remember things that need to be added to each week and month, in addition to things I need to be sure to plan for on odd and even months. These are tasks and activities I need to do regularly and keeping them on a handy card is helpful as I plan through my weeks. I reference this card at the beginning of each week when I’m planning it and that creates a map for the rest of the week.

Setting weekly and monthly goals

paper planner003

paper planner005

I use the blank page at the beginning of each month to set goals for that month. Whether it’s a long planned family vacation or just a personal goal I want to achieve, that’s where I brainstorm my desires for the month and put them down on paper. In addition, I try to set at least three goals weekly, or master to-do’s for myself. I write these down in each week so that I see them visually and they’re at the forefront of my mind.

Daily appointments and to do’s

paper planner006

paper planner007

Once I’ve got the items on my card inserts written down and my goals set, I move on to any appointments or engagements I’ve set. This is also when I go through my week and create a to do list for each day. As a blogger, I have certain tasks I try to complete each day to ensure my lil ol’ Internet couch stays active and engaged. It’s also a way for me to see a snapshot of my week so I can be sure to balance work and family without exhausting myself.

paper planner011

paper planner012

For me, using a paper planner has been the most effective method for being a goal getter. As a visual person, it helps me to see what lies ahead for the week and how I can best manage my time. While my guide to using a paper planner may not be for you, I think it’s important for everyone to find a system that is most effective for them. Planning ahead and strategizing your weeks can be an efficient way to ensure your personal and professional goals are being challenged and achieved.

Frozen Treats for Summer

Here in the High Desert, we’re in the middle of an excessive heat warning. It’s only been summer for about two weeks and already we’re being told to stay indoors, away from the sun’s rays. We spent most of last week in our little blow up pool and I served the kids popsicles and lunch as they lounged and splashed in the cool water. It’s proving to be one of the hottest summers on record thus far, so I’m loading up my dessert and snack arsenal with frozen treats recipes to help cool my family off during the sizzling months.
