Decadence and the holiday season go hand in hand, am I right, friends? My holiday kitchen is dusted in flour and glistening with sprinkles. My cupboards are packed with chocolate chips galore. And my oven is always preheated and ready to bake yet another one of my festive creations. For me, baking and the holidays go hand in hand. What better excuse to share my love language with the people I care about?
My husband often takes my creations to work with him. The grave shift looks forward to my treats and inquire when too much time has passed without one. Christmas season is officially here (my husband was making me wait until after Thanksgiving!) and I’ll take that as my green flag to start whipping up special yum-yums for his co-workers. This Double Chocolate Banana Bread is a decadent way to welcome the tinsel, holly, and Saint Nick. It’s a perfectly moist, chocolate-y, indulgent treat bread that’s made with dark cocoa, crushed bananas, and soft brown sugar and then topped with even more chocolate for a rich, almost brownie-like texture. I took mine a step further into the holiday direction with NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Red and Green Morsels to make my bread extra festive.
On a large plate, mash the bananas and then transfer them to a large mixing bowl.
Combine the bananas with melted butter.
Next add in some brown sugar, an egg, and some vanilla.
Gently sift in a little baking soda, a pinch of salt, some cocoa powder, and flour until it’s all just combined.
Fold in some chocolate chips. I told ya this bread was decadent!
Transfer the bread mixture to a greased loaf pan and bake at 350F for 45 minutes.
Remove the bread and top with festive NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Red and Green Morsels.
Bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the bread passes the good ol’ toothpick test.
Allow the bread to cool for at least 10 minutes before attempting to remove it from the pan.
This Double Chocolate Banana Bread makes a great gift for teachers, neighbors, coworkers, mail carriers, karate instructors, and just about anyone who enjoys chocolate. Let’s face it, just about everyone! Wrap it up with some parchment paper, cover it with some brown craft paper, and tie it with a piece of twine (use these adorable printables from NESTLÉ®) for a lovely little package of culinary love. You could also leave the bread inside the pan and wrap it up with some craft paper and twine for a gift that’s tasty and functional for after the bread is all gone.

- 3 large ripe bananas
- ½ cup butter, melted
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup flour
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Red and Green Morsels
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a loaf pan (9x5) with parchment paper.
- Mash bananas in a large bowl and whisk in melted butter.
- Add brown sugar, egg, and vanilla.
- Gently sift in baking soda, salt, flour, and cocoa powder.
- Mix together until just incorporated.
- Gently fold in chocolate chips.
- Transfer batter into prepared pan and sprinkle the top with Nestle Holiday Morsels.
- Bake 55 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Serve immediately or wrap and store for 4-5 days at room temperature.
