Friday Night “Sleep Outs”

September 7, 2014Holly Sosa

On Friday nights, the boys get to have what they call a, “sleep out.” They get to stay up late, camp out in the living room, eat popcorn, & take turns choosing Netflix movies or shows. I grew up with this Friday night tradition (this was before Netflix, kids!) & it makes my heart so full to see them make their beds on the floor with the same excitement I had as a kid.

Unlike when I was a kid, Netflix makes movie night much easier. And with the parental controls set, I can be at ease just letting them have control over what shows they choose to watch as they take turns picking their favorites.

This month, Netflix is encouraging your family to include a family movie night into your back to school routines. Whether it be a Tuesday evening or a Friday night sleep out like my kids, how do you incorporate family time into your schedules? I love this family fort idea & may have to try to recreate something similar with my kids for our next movie night.

Be sure to check out these fun recommended titles with your family this month. We have already viewed Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, & both of the boys are looking forward to checking out The Pirate Fairy.

For your littles:

  1. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
  2. The Pirate Fairy
  3. Hoodwinked
  4. Angelina Ballerina
  5. Bob the Builder
  6. The Muppet Movie
For your big kiddos:

  1. Clueless
  2. The Breakfast Club
  3. Friday Night Lights
  4. The Vampire Diaries
  5. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
  6. 13 Going on 30
What are your family movie night traditions? Do your kids have, “sleep outs,” like mine? I’d love to hear about your family fun in the comments below.
