When I asked Aiden what kind of party he wanted for his birthday, he told me a, “hee haw,” party.  So a, “hee haw,” party is exactly what we had.  I love throwing parties & entertaining, so I took Aiden’s theme & got crazy with it.

I decided that we would get enough cowboy hats, mustaches, & bandannas for everyone (including the adults) to wear.  If the kids caught any of the adults out of costume, they got to yell for Sheriff Aiden & then they’d go in front of a firing squad, which was just all the kids with a squirt gun.  However, the adults were super into it, so we ended up just letting the kids go to town with the squirt guns on their own.

For food, we had Git Along Lil Doggies (hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls), Rattlesnake Bites (jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese & wrapped in bacon), Happy Trails Mix, S’more Pops, Chicken Chili, Cornbread, the good ol’ chips & salsa staple, Sarsparilla (root beer), & Cactus Juice (lemonade & Sprite with a little green food coloring).

I got super crazy with the games & activities.  Since getting a jumpy house in our area is super expensive, I needed to make sure the kids would have plenty to do.  The last thing I wanted was for someone to be, “totally bored Mo-ooom.”  So, we had a make your own Sheriff badge station, horseshoes, pannin’ for gold area, a photo booth, & of course, our firing squad.

Naturally, a couple days before his party, Aiden developed an allergy infection in his eye.  It was a snot factory…in his eye.  And the morning of his party he woke with the worst of it.  Poor kid was such a trooper though & did have fun despite his bum eye.  Despite these pictures, I swear the kids had a blast.  We were just lucky that we were all standing in one place.  Never mind trying to get everyone to smile & look at the camera.  Just stand still for three seconds, kids.  Three.  Also, Noelle photo bombed the hell out of our photo, too.
J’s Abuelo & Abuelita drove up from Oxnard to be there for the party.  So did his Grandma & Aunt Donna.  And J’s co-workers showed up too with their kids!  It was so awesome that everyone came up to celebrate with us.  They were all so complimentary & at the end of the night, I received the sweetest text from J’s Dad thanking me for throwing such an awesome party & telling me how happy he was that I was Aiden’s step-mom & then he finished off with how proud he as to have me for a daughter-in-law.  Tears.  Damn, now that must have been a good party.
